What are the required travel documents?

A visa is required for all foreigners coming to Burundi, except for nationals from the East African Community countries. For more details, please refer to the official site of Burundi National Tourism Office .

What are the spoken languages?

Kirundi (native language), french (official language), swahili (the most spokend language in east africa) and a bit of english.

What's the weather like?

Mild temperatures during the day, cooler evenings. The best part of Burundi is that you can visit the country at any time of year, because the hottest it gets during the dry season is 32° C, and the coldest it gets during the raining season is 15° C. Despite being an equatorial country, Burundi has a moderate climate because of its altitude.


Rate: 1 USD = 1480 BIF (keeps changing). Credit cards rarely accepted, but cash may be withdrawn with card at certain banks. Travellers' checks can be cashed at local banks.

Banks: 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM, 2:00-5:00 PM, Monday through Friday (some banks open Saturday morning).
